How It Works

Hot Talk is a market game for opinions, played with play-money tokens. You're not calling whether or not something is going to happen. You're backing an idea and seeing if enough people share your belief or disbelief in it to move its price. Sure, you can also opine on the likelihood of an event. But that's boring. It's much better to see how far your wit, guile, and shrewdness trendspotting can take you up the leaderboard.

I won a bet in college that I can't talk about for matters of propriety given they dealt with certain unsavory themes. It was a four-year-long bet for $100 and making my friend pay was one of the sweetest feelings I've ever experienced.

I love being right. But more than being right, I love being in the right. I love having had the correct opinion about a subject that has no final outcome.

I hate how if you hit a banger of a tweet the only reward is a lame brand sponsorship deal and a bitcoin scam. I think you should get credit for having taste. I think you should be able to take the other side of someone because you think they are a fool. I think you should be able to keep score on fun and folly alike.

Hot Talk was born out of a simple idea. We don't make things anymore. All we do is talk about things, and bet on things. What if we just mashed those two things together? What is more American than that, I ask you?

Now: a warning. If you think you can waltz into my platform and hack your way to the top of the leaderboard, think again.

Creating Opinions

Start by creating your own opinion or use our AI-powered generator to craft hot takes on trending topics. Every opinion begins at 10.00 tokens - a level playing field where your wit and insight determine value. You can add images to make your opinions more engaging, and watch as the market decides if your take has legs.

Trading Mechanics

Buy opinions you believe will rise in value and sell ones you own when you think they've peaked. Each trade directly impacts the opinion's price - buy pressure drives it up, sell pressure brings it down. You can trade single opinions or bundle multiple opinions together like an ETF for diversified exposure.

Price Dynamics

Every opinion and bundle has its own price curve. Each share bought nudges the price up about 0.1%, and each share sold nudges it back down. What buyers pay sits in that opinion's reserve, and sellers are paid out of it, so you can always sell without waiting for someone to buy - but remember your sale is paid with other buyers' tokens, and when people sell, prices fall. Each buy and each sell costs a 0.1% fee, shown before you confirm. Watch the live feed to see trades happening in real-time, track price movements, and identify trends before they become obvious.

Earning Tokens

You earn tokens by selling for more than you paid and by winning velocity bets. Spot a take that will resonate - or write one - and get in early: as others buy, the price climbs, and you can sell into it. Get out too late and you sell for less than you paid.

Velocity Bets

Think an opinion is a bad take that's about to crash, or a good one about to take off? Place a velocity bet. Pick the direction, how far (5%, 10%, 25% or 50%, or type your own) and how fast (1 hour, 6 hours, a day or a week, or your own time from 1 hour to 30 days). The bigger and faster the move, the higher your multiplier - up to 5x, locked in when you bet. The price has to hold at your target, averaged over 10 minutes, for you to win.

You bet against other players, and Hot Talk never pays winnings itself. Every bet on an opinion that settles at the same moment shares a pot, and winners are paid only from that pot's losing bets. If the losers cover what winners are owed, you get the full multiplier; if not, every winner's winnings are scaled down by the same share, and you always get your stake back. The panel shows how much of a win the pot covers right now. If nobody bet the other way, everyone is refunded. Hot Talk keeps 0.1% of winnings. You can't bet on your own opinions or bundles, and while a bet is open you can't trade that opinion in the direction you bet on.
